Benedikt Jónsson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1845. He died in Bellingham, Washington on November 7, 1910. He took the name Austmann in the west.
Spouse: 1874 Rannveig Þorleifsdóttir b. in N. Múlasýsla November 22, 1844, d. May 25, 1902.
Children: 1. Hildigerður b. 1875 2. Halldór Þorleifur 3. Jón Ólafur 4. Sigríður Jóhanna. Another four of their children died young.
They emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and settled in New Iceland. They took land in the Víðir Settlement and name it Stararskóg. In 1881 they moved to Miklabæ in the same settlement and lived there until 1888 when they moved to Selkirk. After many years, they moved west towards the Pacific Coast and settled in Bellingham, Washington.
