Sigurjón came west with his mother, Steinunn Jónsdóttir, and stepfather, Jón Pétursson, in 1883. They first lived in the Geysir Settlement and then moved to the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland. Sigurjón lived there the rest of his life. Anna emigrated to Winnipeg. Manitoba in 1899.
