Jakob Espólín was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1829. He died in N. Dakota in 1913.

Children: 1. Jón Magnús, did not go West 2. Sigríður b. 1866 3. Ingiríður b. 1871 died of smallpox in New Iceland. They lost two children in Iceland.
They emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1874. They lived in Kinmount one year and then moved to New Iceland, living the first year in Gimli. They took land in the Árnes Settlement and named their farm Espihól. In the spring of 1881 they moved to Winnipeg, but in the fall they moved south to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota. They moved back to Iceland in 1901 but that did not go well, and he moved back to N. Dakota. Jakob last lived with his daughter Sigríður and her husband, Gunnlaug Vigfússon in Pembina, North Dakota.
