Sigurgeir Björnsson was born on September 20, 1848 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in N. Dakota on August 25, 1920.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and lived the first year in Gimli in New Iceland. They took land in the Víðirnes Settlement, naming the farm Grund. They moved to the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota in 1880. Going west with them was Guðfinna’s father Jóhannes Oddsson.
