Björn emigrated west with his parents in 1884 and bought land when he entered adulthood. He farmed during the growing season and worked on Lake Winnipeg in the winter. The couple moved from the Geysir Settlement and bought land in the Víðir Settlement, sold it and bought a home in Árborg. They were living there when Björn died in 1924.
