They emigrated west in 1883 with Páll’s father, Jóhannes, and also Einar and Sveinbjörg, Þórlaug’s siblings. They went to Winnipeg and from there to New Iceland where they bought land in the Fljóts Settlement, naming the farm Reynivellir. They moved to the Geysir Settlement and Páll bought land there, but later sold it and took over Grænanes, his father’s farm. He later sold it and they moved to Arborg.
