Gunnar was the foster son of Gunnar Guðmundsson in the Árdals-Framnes Settlement. He came west with the family in 1900 and lived with them at Hlíðarenda in the Árdals-Framnes Settlement until 1912.
He then moved in with Jónína’s parents in the same settlement and lived there ever after at the farm called Skógardalur.
