Halli Björnsson was born on Nov. 15, 1869 in N. Múlasýsla. He took the last name Benson in the west. He died on April 3, 1968.

Halli emigrated west with his mother Sigurbjörg Sigurðardóttir and step-father, Sigfinnur Pétursson in 1878. They settled in the Lincoln County Settlement in Minnesota a year later. Ingibjörg emigrated west with her parents in 1877. Halli bought a farm in the Lyon County Settlement in 1900. He was assessor of Nordland Township for four years and served as clerk of school district #29. Hall was a member of the Lyon Co. Board of Commissioners, a member of the Modern Woodsmen, and active in St. Paul’s Icelandic Lutheran Church in Minneota.
