Einar Guðmundsson was born on July 1, 1862 in N. Múlasýsla. He died on April 18, 1939 in the Lundar Settlement in Manitoba, Canada. He took the last name Borgfjörð (Borgfjord) in the west.

Einar emigrated to N. America in 1890 and came first to Minnesota, where he lived in Lyon County for four years. Þórstína emigrated a year after Einar. In the 1900 census the family is in Swede Prairie, Yellow Medicine Co., where his name is spelled “Bergfelt”. Altogether, the family lived in Minnesota for 9 years. They were members of the Westurheim Church. In 1901, they moved to Manitoba and took land in the Swan Lake settlement near Mary Hill and lived there to their deaths.
