Einar emigrated to N. America in 1890 and came first to Minnesota, where he lived in Lyon County for four years. Þórstína emigrated a year after Einar. In the 1900 census the family is in Swede Prairie, Yellow Medicine Co., where his name is spelled “Bergfelt”. Altogether, the family lived in Minnesota for 9 years. They were members of the Westurheim Church. In 1901, they moved to Manitoba and took land in the Swan Lake settlement near Mary Hill and lived there to their deaths.
