Gísli emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and went directly to New Iceland. They moved to N. Dakota on May 25, 1878. They bought land in the Hallson Settlement in 1879. They spent a short time in Minneota, Minnesota but in the fall of 1889 the family moved Winnipeg and then to the Lögberg Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1891.
