Guðmundur Jónsson was born in Dalasýsla in December 1811. He died in 1878. He took the name Gudmundson in the west, while some of the family used the name Johnson.

Aslaug Gudmundsdottir b. Aug. 23, 1850 3. Daniel Gudmundsson Johnson b. Nov. 17, 1852 4. Holmfridur Gudmundsdottir b. Aug. 30, 1857. Guðmundur also had a son, Jon Gudmundsson b. 1835.
In 1878, Guðmundur went to N. America with his third wife, Thuridur Halldorsdottir. They left Bordeyri on the ship “Osborne”. The family settled in the area of Minneota, Minnesota. Guðmundur died shortly after their arrival. Thuridur lived with Guðmundur’s children in the Minneota area following his death.
