Ólafur Guðmundsson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on February 17, 1850.
Spouse: 1876 Sigþrúður Guðbrandsdóttir b. 1858 in Gullbringusýsla.

Ólafur emigrated west with Páll Þorláksson to Wisconsin in the United States in 1872. He returned to Iceland a year later after hearing of his father’s death. He returned to North America in 1876 and went to New Iceland. In 1878, the road led him to south to Tongue River, N. Dakota. He lived there until 1886 when he moved to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan. In 1898, they moved to Glenboro, Manitoba and lived there until 1904 when they moved to Big Point. In 1940, they were living in Winnipeg.
