Þorlákur Gunnar Jónsson was born on August 16, 1824 at Berufjörð in S. Múlasýsla. He died in Wisconsin on January 21, 1916. He took the last name Thorlakson in the west.
Spouse: Lovísa Níelsdóttir b. 1822 at Húsavík in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. She died on July 26, 1901 in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Children: 1. Haraldur b. 1847 2. Páll b. 1851, d. March 1, 1882 3. Jón b. 1853 4. Jakobína b. 1854 5. Rannveig b. 1856 6. Níels b. 1858 7. Björn b. 1860 8. Valgerður b. 1863.
They emigrated west to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1873 with their five youngest children. Haraldur and Páll had emigrated the year before. They lived in the city for two years, but in the fall of 1875 they moved to the Ljósavatns Settlement in Shawano County, Wisconsin. They lived there until 1879 but then moved west to N. Dakota and bought land in Mountain. Sometime before the turn of the century, they moved to Detroit and lived there until 1901 when they moved to Selkirk, Manitoba. Þorlákur bought land in the Vatnabyggð Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1904 and settled there in 1905. They lived there for eight years before moving to their son Haraldur in Mackenzie County in western N. Dakota. Haraldur died there in 1915 so Þorlákur moved to his daughter Rannveig in Wisconsin.
