Kristinn emigrated west to Ontario, Canada in 1873. He settled in Muskoka and lived there until 1881 when he moved to Winnipeg. He lived there rest of his life. Guðrún emigrated west to Manitoba in 1876 with her parents, Jón Árnason and Rebekka Guðmundsdóttir. They settled down in New Iceland but Guðrún was left to work in Winnipeg at the home of a Canadian couple in order to learn English.
