Magnús emigrated west to Ontario, Canada in 1873 and first lived in Rosseau. He was there for a year and then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The road then led him to New Iceland where he lived for awhile. He was one of the first explorers to N. Dakota and first bought land in the Akra Settlement, but he later moved south in the settlement. In 1914, he moved to Climax, Saskatchewan.
