Jón Finnbogason was born on June 14, 1850 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He took the name John Finnson in the west.
Spouse: 1) 1877 Rebekka Marteinsdóttir b. in S. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1855, d. 1878. Séra Jón Bjarnason married them. 2) 1881 Jakobína Sigurðardóttir b. 1856 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. Séra Halldór Briem married them.

Jón emigrated west to Ontario in 1874 and was in Kinmount the first year. He moved west to Winnipeg in 1875 and spent a year there before moving to New Iceland and living in Gimli. He returned to Winnipeg in 1877, but then moved to N. Dakota in 1881. He bought land and lived there until 1890 when he again moved back to Winnipeg. Rebekka came west to Winnipeg in 1876 and Jakobína also emigrated the same year.
