Jónas Jónasson was born on December 28, 1849 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. He died on November 25, 1942 in the Fljóts Settlement.
Spouse: July 10, 1874 Helga Hallgrímsdóttir b. December 31, 1842 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla, d. December 30, 1931 in the Fljóts Settlement.

The couple emigrated west in 1874 and settled in Kinmount, Ontario with Jónas’ brother, Sigtryggur. They moved west to New Iceland a year later and spent the first winter in Gimli. In the spring of 1876, they moved north to Mikley and in 1877, they made the final move to the Fljóts Settlement. Jónas was a trained printer and was responsible for the publishing and printing of Framfari.
