Jósúa Sigurður Björnsson was born on November 11, 1848 in Dalasýsla. He died in 1923.
Spouse: 1) Elín Guðmundsdóttir b. December 8, 1852, d. 1875 in New Iceland. 2) Kristveig Jóhannesdóttir b. November 30, 1850 in Húnavatnssýsla, d. March 12, 1918.
Children: Elín and Jósúa did not have any children that lived. With Kristveig: 1. Helga, d. January 30, 1917 2. Lilja 3. Kristín 4. Skafti 5. Sigurður.
Jósúa and Elín emigrated west to Ontario, Canada in 1874 and stayed in Collingwood until the fall of 1875. They then moved to New Iceland where Elín died in the first winter. Jósúa moved to Pembina, N. Dakota in 1878 and lived there for 10 years, before moving west to Markerville, Alberta, where he lived from 1888 to 1893. He stopped farming and moved to Blaine, Washington. In 1907 he went to Iceland and worked on coal research in the West, but returned to North America in 1912 and ended up in California.
