Sigurlaug (Sarah)Magnúsdóttir was born on November 16, 1853 in Skagafjarðarsýsla.
Spouse: 1) Árni Jónsson b. in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1849. He died in New Iceland in 1876/1877. 2) Jón Jónsson born in 1849 in Skeggjastaðasókn in N. Múlasýsla. He died in S. Dakota on November 29, 1904. He took the name John J. Hoff in America.

Sigurlaug and Árni emigrated west to Ontario, Canada in 1874; Sigurlaug’s mother, María Ólafsdóttir, travelled with them. Travelling on the same ship was Jón, and they all lived in Kinmount the first year. A year later, they moved to New Iceland. Jón married Sigurlaug there in 1878 because her first husband, Árni Jónsson, died soon after coming to New Iceland. They moved to Minneota, Minnesota in 1879 and settled on land in Lyon County. They moved from there in 1900 and spent a few years in Marshall, Minnesota, but the 1904 census lists them as living in Watertown, S. Dakota. Sigurlaug was still living there with her daughters in 1910.
