They emigrated west to Markland, Nova Scotia in 1878. Traveling west with them was their housekeeper, Margrét Árnadóttir of Rangárvallasýsla. Hans built a large house, called Robbshúsið, but moved from there to the mining town of Tangier and later to New York.
