Halldór Halldórsson was born on January 25, 1849 in Árnessýsla. He died on January 26, 1924. He took the last name Armann in the west.

Halldór and Margrét came west in 1878 to Canada and went on to Markland, Nova Scotia. With them was Sesselja Grímsdóttir; they had all lived at Stóra Háls in Þingvallahreppur. Einar Einarsson from Hvoll in Dyrhólahreppur was also with them. Halldór and Margrét moved to Winnipeg in 1882 and lived there two years before moving to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota.
