Jón Tryggvi Jónsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on June 14, 1875. He took the last name Bergman in the west. He died in Alberta in 1941.
Unmarried and childless.
Jón studied saddle- and shoe-making in Iceland before emigrating west to Winnipeg in 1900. He worked there for the first year, but then took part in the goldrush in the Klondike in 1901, staked a claim, and had some success. He returned to Iceland and stayed there for two years before coming back to Winnipeg. He started a home construction business and made a good profit, both in Winnipeg and later in Medicine Hat, Alberta where he died.
