Árni Pálsson was born in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) on September 8, 1879. He died on August 14, 1920. He took the name Paul Johnson.

Árni came west from the Westmann Islands to Spanish Fork, Utah in 1881, together with his mother and brother. His father arrived a year later. Emilía’s parents were Einar Hermann Jónsson and Guðrún Hallgrímsdóttir of N. Múlasýsla. They lived in Duluth, Minnesota where Emilía was born. Western documents and one in Iceland show her born in 1886, but Vesturfaraskrá says her parents left Vopnafjordur in 1888!!
