He emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876. He left Winnipeg in 1880 and moved to N. Dakota. It was not the life he was looking for, so he returned to Winnipeg in 1881, where he tried his hand at real estate. Then he went to New Iceland around 1890 and lived in the Víðirnes Settlement. He later moved to Saskatchewan.
