María Guðmundsdóttir was born in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) on May 11, 1878. She died on September 15, 1951 in Utah. She was known as Mary Goodmanson Aitken or Mary Goodman in Utah.

María emigrated west to Spanish Fork, Utah with her parents in 1886. Charles and Mary started farming in Clear Creek, Utah, but in 1903 moved to Raymond, Alberta, Canada, where her parents had moved. They moved from there in the spring of 1919 and settled in Castle Dale, Utah. They were there until 1923, but then moved to Mapleton. They lived for a time in Springville, but moved from there in 1929 to Orem.
