Jóhann emigrated west to Utah with his mother, Vilborg Þórðardóttir, step-father, and siblings in 1874. Sólrún emigrated west in 1888. They lived in Spanish Fork until the beginning of the new century when they moved to Winter Quarters and lived there until 1903. They moved from there to Raymond, Alberta, Canada. Two years later, they moved to Taber.
