Jóhanna Guðný Helga Sveinsdóttir was born in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) on February 9, 1861. She died in Cleveland, Utah on May 27, 1927. She took the name Hannah Johnson in the west.

Jóhanna emigrated west to Spanish Fork, Utah in 1881. This was where her parents, Sveinn Þórðarson and Helga Árnadóttir, lived. Her first marriage was short-lived.  After she and Jens lived for a short time in Spanish Fork, they moved to Scofield and lived there a number of years. Life’s road led them to Cleveland, Utah in 1902 where they lived thereafter.
