Njáll Tóbíasson was born in Borgarfjarðarsýsla on February 8, 1894. He died on May 23, 1982 and is buried in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

Njáll sailed to England with his father, Tóbías Tóbíasson, and his sister Sigríður in the spring of 1900. They stayed there a few days before going sailing west and arriving in New York on July 2. The travelled overland to Utah, arriving in Cleveland on July 20, 1900. A few weeks later, Njáll and his father moved to Alberta, Canada and there Njáll settled, while his father returned to Iceland. In December, 1920, Njáll and his children moved to Enterprise, Utah where his sister Sigríður lived; she cared for his children. Another move for Njáll and his children, this time to Moapa Valley, Nevada, occurred in the fall of 1921 and Sigríður and her family moved there as well. Later Njáll moved to Oregon.
