Guðríður Brynjólfsdóttir was born in 1882 in Ísafjarðarsýsla (?). She died in British Columbia in 1967 and is buried in Vancouver.

Guðríður came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her foster parents, Þórður Bjarnason and Rebekka Stefánsdóttir, in 1887. Árni, together with his sister, Guðríður, and her fiancée, Þorsteinn Sveinsson, emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1888. Árni and Guðrún settled in New Iceland, just north of Camp Morton. After her husband’s death, Guðríður and her foster daughter Guðrún moved to Rabbit Point on the north side of Lake Winnipeg where her foster son, Thor, ran a fish processing plant. They later moved to Jackhead Harbour, Manitoba and later ended up in British Columbia.
