Stefán came west to the United States with his parents, Arngrímur Arngrímsson and Þorbjörg Magnúsdóttir, in 1882. They settled in the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota. From there, Stefán moved in 1905 to the Vatnabyggð Settlement in Saskatchewan and took land north of Mozart. Margrét went west to N. Dakota with her parents in 1883.
