Jón Sigfússon was born in 1861 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. He died in March, 1926. He took the name John Sigfusson Bergmann in the west.

Sigurbjörg came west to Ontario, Canada with her parents, Davíð Davíðsson and Anna Jónsdóttir, in 1873. They lived in Muskoka until 1886, then moved west to Garðar, N. Dakota. Jón came west to N. Dakota in 1882 with his parents and siblings, and similarly settled in Garðar. There Jón and Sigurbjörg were married and lived. Jón ran a store and post office, went to Alaska in 1898 where he searched for gold and lived there for several years. He visited Garðar regularly but died in San Diego, California. He is buried in Garðar.
