Halldór came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 with his parents and siblings. He lived with them in New Iceland until 1880 when he went with them south to the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota. Halldór was a shopkeeper in Mountain for a long time, but moved in 1930 to Chicago and lived there the rest of his days.
