Björn Ágústsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on May 24, 1858. He died on October 21, 1911 in Winnipeg. He took the last name Blöndal in the west.

Björn learned carpentry in Copenhagen and came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his mother, Jóhanna Jónsdóttir, and his brother Jón. He soon found work in the city, but in 1888 he moved south to the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota and lived there six years. From there, he moved west to the Pacific Ocean, but returned to Winnipeg in 1896 where the family lived from then on.
