Anna Kristín Jónsdóttir was born in Strandasýsla on November 19, 1850. She died in Eyford, N. Dakota on December 21, 1923. She took the name Anna Geir in the west.
Spouse: 1877 in New Iceland, married by Jón Bjarnason: Jóhann Geir Jóhannesson born in Snæfellsnessýsla August 9, 1830. He died in the Eyford Settlement in N. Dakota on September 22, 1887.
Children: 1. Kristján Einar b. 1879 in New Iceland 2. Margrét b. 1881 in Thingvalla, d. December 31, 1895 3. Anna b. 1883, d. December 28, 1895 4. Kristín b. 1884, d. January 13, 1896 5. Jóhanna Geirlaug (Lauga Geir) b. April 13, 1888. Jóhann had two sons from his first marriage: 1. Einar Kristján b. 1870 d. from smallpox in New Iceland 1876/77 2. Jóhannes Magnús b. 1872 d. 1893 in Eyford, N. Dakota.
Jóhann Geir came west as a widower to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 with his two sons and elderly father, Jóhannes Grímsson. On the same ship was Anna Jónsdóttir and they became acquainted at sea on the way to New Iceland. They were married and lived in a cottage south of Hnausa. They moved south to N. Dakota in 1888 and lived south of Mountain in the Eyford Settlement.
The family took the last name Geir in N. Dakota. Jóhann’s mother was named Geirlaug Davíðsdóttir. See more about Anna in Íslensk arfleifð!
