Jóhanna Geirlaug Jóhannsdóttir
Jóhanna Geirlaug Jóhannsdóttir was born in Mountain, N. Dakota on April 13, 1888. She took the name Lauga Geir.
Unmarried and childless.
Jóhanna was the daughter of Anna Jónsdóttir and Jóhann Geir Jóhannesson. Her father died in the autumn of 1887 and she was taken in as a foster child by the couple Þórdís Guðmundsdóttir and Davíð Jónsson. She went to school, graduated from university and taught for many years. She always cared about her origins and was the president of the Pembina County women’s cultural association, the Pioneer Daughters of Pembina County. She collected stories about the early Icelandic pioneers, especially women, who contributed incredibly much to society. She herself wrote a great article in the association’s publication about her mother, Anna Geir.
