Guðmundur and Guðrún emigrated west to Canada with their parents from Borðeyri on the steamship Verona in 1876. Both families settled in New Iceland. From there, Guðmundur and Guðrún moved to N. Dakota in 1880 and homesteaded southwest of Mountain in the Eyford Settlement.
