Tómas Halldórsson was born on April 7, 1863 in Dalasýsla. He died on October 24, 1944 in N. Dakota. He took the first name Thomas in the west.

Tómas came west in 1882. His parents, Halldór Þorgilsson and Málmfríður Tómasdóttir, came west in 1876 with their other children and settled in New Iceland, and from there they moved to N. Dakota in 1880, settling in the Thingvalla Settlement. Tómas went there first, but with his brother Þorgils, he moved to Winnipeg in the spring of 1883 and together they worked in construction. A year later, Tómas bought land next to his father’s land and settled there. He lived there the rest of his life, except 1914-1915 when he went west to Point Roberts, Washington on the Pacific coast.
