Elísabet Hallgrímsdóttir was born on May 28, 1878 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. She died in Manitoba in 1946.

Þorsteinn emigrated to Canada in 1873 and settled in Rosseau, Ontario. He moved to N. Dakota in 1881 and settled northwest of Garðar. From N. Dakota, he went to New Iceland in 1900 and spent one winter in the Geysir Settlement. In 1901, they settled in the Framnes Settlement. They moved from there in 1919 and settled in Argyle. Elísabet was the daughter of Hallgrímur Helgason and Kristbjörg Árnadóttir. They came west in 1889.
