Benedikt Pétursson was born in 1839 in N. Múlasýsla. He died on July 31, 1906 in Mountain, N. Dakota.
Spouse: July 28, 1862 Sigurbjörg Sigurðardóttir b. in Eyjafjarðarsýsla, 1833, d. in 1917.
Children: 1. Ingibjörg b. 1866 2. Tryggvi b. 1871.
They emigrated west to New Iceland in 1876 and went north to Mikley. They moved to the eastern side of Lake Winnipeg to Bad Throat River but, after a number years, they moved to Winnipeg. In 1885, an elementary school was rebuilt in the Fljóts (Icelandic River) Settlement and Benedikt was hired as a teacher. The family moved to Akra, N. Dakota, where they lived for three years. They returned to New Iceland and settled in Gimli where Benedikt worked as a shoemaker. They moved from there after a few years to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota.
