Guðbjörg came west to New Iceland in 1876 with her parents, Guðmundur Pétursson and Þorbjörg Finnbogadóttir, and her siblings. They moved to N. Dakota in 1880 and settled near Mountain. Jón took over his parents’ land in the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota and the couple lived there the rest of their lives.
