Sigríður came west to Ontario, Canada in 1874 and was in Kinmount the first winter. She moved with her parents to New Iceland in 1875 and to N. Dakota in 1881. Her parents were Jakob Espólín and Rannveig Skúladóttir. Gunnlaugur came west across the sea in 1876 with his mother, Halldóra Jónsdóttir, and his younger brother Pétur. They went to Duluth, Minnesota and then to Minneota. He moved to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota in 1886 and then to Pembina in 1899.
