Sigurín came west with his parents, Vigfús Jósefsson and his wife Sigurborg Hjálmarsdóttir, in 1878. They moved to Lincoln County, Minnesota where Sigurín lived the longest. Rósa was from the well-known Hákonarstaðir family, the daughter of Páll Pétursson. She came west to Minnesota in 1878 with her mother, Sigríður Vigfúsdóttir.
