Guðrún Árnadóttir was born on August 17, 1872 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. She died on October 29, 1951 in Lincoln County in Minnesota.

Guðrún came west to Ontario, Canada in 1874 with her parents, Árni Jónsson and Sigurlaug Magnúsdóttir, in 1874. They first lived in Kinmount but then moved to New Iceland. There Árni died and Sigurlaug moved south to Minnesota with Guðrún. John took land in Lincoln County in 1879, lived in Lyon County 1886-1894, but the family moved that year to Minneota and John worked there.
