Sigurður Árnason was born on June 16, 1864 in S. Múlasýsla. He died in Selkirk on July 11, 1902. He took the name Sam Anderson in the west.

Sigurður came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his mother, Þórunn Björnsdóttir, in 1882 and travelled on to N. Dakota. They lived there a number of years before moving north with his mother to Selkirk. He lived there the rest of his life.
