Gunnar emigrated west to Minneota, Minnesota in 1885 with his parents, Jóhannes Magnússon and Soffía Vilhjálmsdóttir. He lived there until the turn of the century when he moved to the Pacific Coast and settled in Marietta, Washington. Jónína came west to Minnesota with her parents, Eðvarð Þorleifsson and Sesselja Jónsdóttir, in 1878. Sæunn moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1913 and from there to Marietta.
