Sigurður Snorri Jóhann Þorláksson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on September 2, 1877. He died in Marshall, Minnesota on May 31, 1960. He took the name Johann S. Johnson or Joe Johnson in the west.

Sigurður came west to Minnesota in 1901 and lived the longest in Marshall in Lyon County. Hallbjörg was the daughter of Bergur Hallsson and Sigríður Jónsdóttir. She came west in 1898 and settled in Lincoln County.
