Gunnar Jakobsson was born in N. Múlasýsla in 1882. He died in 1944 in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. He took the name Gunnar Thorsteinsson in the west.

Spouse: Elín Ragnheiður Jósefsdóttir b. October 8, 1886 in N. Múlasýsla, d. in Abbotsford, British Columbia in 1969.

Children: 1. Björg b. September 17, 1905 in Winnipeg 2. Walter b. in Gimli on November 12, 1907, d. in Bradner, BC 1974 3. Ida b. in Foam Lake in Vatnabyggð on September 2, 1910.

Elín came west to Manitoba with her mother, Björg Kristjánsdóttir, and her husband Sigvaldi Jónsson. She lived with them on their land near Churchbridge, Saskatchewan. From there the road led to Winnipeg and finally to the Fljóts Settlement at the turn of the century. Sigvaldi took land there, naming it Burstafell. Elín stayed with them in 1902, but then moved to Winnipeg where she met Gunnar. He was the son of Jakob Þorsteinsson and Þóra Gunnarsdóttir who had settled in Winnipeg in 1888. Elín and Gunnar first lived in Gimli in 1906, but from there life’s road led to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1908, where they settled land southwest of Foam Lake. They lived there until Gunnar’s death, after which Elín moved west to the Pacific.
