Jakob Líndal Hansson was born on December 29, 1849 in Húnavatnssýsla. He died in Winnipeg on July 1, 1920.

Jakob came west to Winnipeg in 1887, while Anna arrived there a year later with the two oldest children. They settled in the Lakes Settlement in Saskatchewan where Jakob raised sheep and cattle. They moved back to Manitoba in 1896 and tried grain farming in Foxwarren. In 1900, they moved north to Winnipegosis, where Jakob tried fishing. From there, the family moved back to the Lakes Settlement, Saskatchewan and settled south of Leslie.
