Anna Margrét came west to Canada with her parents, Eiríkur Ingimundarson and Gróa Ásbjarnardóttir, in 1887. Guðbrandur came west there with his parents, Narfi Halldórsson and Ástríður Árnadóttir, in 1877. They went to N. Dakota and lived there for a while but moved to Winnipeg in 1884 where they lived for two years. During these years, Guðbrandur worked on the railway. He moved to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1886. They started farming on Guðbrandur’s land and lived there until 1899, but then moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) near Foam Lake.
