Narfi was the son of Guðbrandur Narfason and Anna M. Eiríksdóttir and grew up in their home in the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan. He moved west with them in 1899 to the Lakes Settlement and the family settled near Foam Lake. Jakobína was the daughter of Bjarni Jasonarson and Guðrún Eiríksdóttir.
